Fear of Social Media

Recently PEI decided to get on board the Social Media Train…easier said than done.  When implementing a social media strategy the most crucial component is companywide buy-in.  There were several concerns and fears centered around the idea of exposing so much information on several social media platforms.  I wanted to share how I got buy-in from my co-workers to stick with a new social media strategy.

I researched numerous social media ideas and plans to broaden my own knowledge of social media strategies.  I gathered as many facts and statistics as I could to prove to my colleagues that social media is not a question of if, but a question of when?  Like I predicted I got plenty of pushback from several concerned co-workers.  They did have valid fears, but I had information to overturn those fears.  I showed a really great YouTube video that displayed stats from several different industries including, B2B and B2C organizations.  If you are trying to ramp up a social media strategy, this is a great video to start with; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypmfs3z8esI&feature=player_embedded#!

We are now in our third month of our social media implementation and I could not be happier with the results I have seen.  The fears I encountered at the beginning are starting to fade and people are starting to observe the benefits of social media, are greatly outweighing the risk.  We are now successfully cruising on the Social Media Train with no plans of ever getting off!
